Press Release: PhageEU is Growing While Welcoming New Members

Brussels, 30th January 2025

2024 was a milestone year for PhageEU. It has officially incorporated as non-governmental organisation and with its seat and secretariat in Brussels, PhageEU is well equipped to represent interests of phage community in order to facilitate access to phage technology in the EU. Now, the voice of the phage community is becoming even stronger, as PhageEU is welcoming new members representing both industry and academia as well as services and products producers specialising in animal and human applications of phages.

Since its incorporation in July 2024 PhageEU has actively engaged in awareness raising and advocacy in order to bring phage related issues high on the EU agenda. Our policy event organised in December 2024 in the European Parliament on the “Potential of bacteriophages in fighting AMR” was a great opportunity to launch a dialogue with Members of the European Parliament, European Commission, European Food Safety Authority and European Medicines Agency. PhageEU has also launched its European Election Manifesto to outline its priorities for a healthier Europe as well as a Common declaration on the recognition of the potential of bacteriophages in fighting AMR.

These efforts contribute to PhageEU ambition to become a well- recognised and trusted partner at EU level, among EU decision makers and One Health stakeholders. Our hard work and dedication have been noticed by representatives of the phage community, who decided to join PhageEU as members.

“I am thrilled to see, that PhageEU is growing its membership base. This will make our voice even stronger and will enable us to provide decision makers with broad expertise covering both animal and human applications of phages. I would like to thank our new members for their trust and invite representatives of global phage community to join us” said Prof. Jarosław Dastych, PhageEU President.

Today, PhageEU Board of Directors has accepted officially membership applications from 6 entities. From 30 January 2025 PhageEU founding members Proteon Pharmaceuticals, JAFRAL and PTC Phage Technology Center, have been joined by 4 corporate members: Rime Bioinformatics from France, SK8 Europe from Spain, LxBio from Portugal and IZS Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Abruzzo and Molise from Italy as well as by 2 scientific members: Dr. Grégory Resch from Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland and Dr. Sandra Sevilla Navarro from CECAV, Animal and Veterinary Research Center.

Phage EU is a coalition of likeminded stakeholders who represent phages in industry, the scientific community and civil society. We want to realize the full potential of phages in Europe.
